De opening van het digitale monument ‘Luchtoorlog Hoeksche Waard 1940-1945’ werd o.a. opgeluisterd door doedelzakmuziek en liederen van het Shantykoor. Na het volkslied en tijdens het leggen van de kransen maakte het ronkende geluid van het overvliegende historische vliegtuig ‘Beech Expeditor’ veel indruk. ,,Het bestaande monument dwingt tot omhoog kijken, bezoekers zullen nu ook omlaag kijken. Gewapend met een smartphone ”, zo sprak stichtingsvoorzitter Jan van Tol. De QR-codes op het tegelveld verwijzen naar internetpagina’s over de crashes en slachtoffers. ,,Ook voor de jeugd zijn de verhalen nu eenvoudig toegankelijk. We zijn veel dank verschuldigd aan de gemeente Oud-Beijerland, het enthousiasme van de buitendienst was hartverwarmend.”

Op zaterdag 13 mei zal bij het monument Luchtoorlog Hoeksche Waard in Oud-Beijerland de onthulling plaatsvinden van het digitale monument. De QR-codes op het tegelveld aan de Antonie van Leeuwenhoekstraat vertellen belangstellenden via een app op de smartphone het verhaal van de slachtoffers. Initiatiefnemers Jan van Tol en Anton de Man verheugen zich op de onthulling, leerlingen van groep 8 van OBS De Klinker spelen daarbij een prominente rol. ,,Deze school heeft het monument geadopteerd, daar zijn we uiteraard erg blij mee. Het betrekken van de jeugd bij de herdenking zorgt ervoor dat de slachtoffers nooit worden vergeten.” Vanaf 14.00 uur beginnen de formaliteiten, het comité heeft voor een uitgebreid programma gezorgd. Naast alle toespraken zal het Shantykoor de liederen ‘Land of hope and glory’ en ‘We will meet again’ ten gehore brengen. De vlaggen van de acht betrokken naties zullen worden gehesen, het ‘Amazing Grace’ zal op de doedelzak worden gespeeld. Er zullen bloemen en kransen worden gelegd, zo ook door de organisatie ‘Keep them Rolling’. Bé van der Hoek: ,,Zaterdag rijden we met een stoet van twintig militaire voertuigen door de Hoeksche Waard. We vetrekken rond 10.00 uur bij Alcazar, om 12.00 uur wordt een krans gelegd bij het monument ‘Moeder’. In de middag zijn we bij de onthulling van het digitale monument, ook daar zal door ons een krans worden gelegd.”

Dat officiële moment vindt plaats bij het monument Luchtoorlog Hoeksche Waard in Oud-Beijerland. Door de QR-codes op het tegelveld aan de Antonie van Leeuwenhoekstraat te scannen, zijn verhalen over de Tweede Wereldoorlog te horen. Initiatiefnemers Jan van Tol en Anton de Man ver-heugen zich op de onthulling. Leerlingen van groep 8 van OBS De Klinker spelen daarbij een prominente rol. Vanaf 14.00 uur beginnen de formaliteiten. Het comité heeft voor een uitgebreid programma gezorgd. Naast alle toespraken zal een shantykoor de liederen Land of hope and glory en We will meet again ten gehore brengen. De vlaggen van de acht betrokken landen zullen worden gehesen en op de doedelzak wordt Amazing Grace gespeeld. Ook oude oorlogsvoer-tuigen zijn present. Bé van der Hoek: „We rijden zaterdag met een stoet van twintig militaire voertuigen van Keep Them Rolling door de Hoeksche Waard. We vertrekken rond tien uur bij Alcazar, om twaalf uur wordt een krans gelegd bij het monument Moeder. In de middag zijn we bij de onthulling van het digitale monument, waar we ook een krans leggen.”
