Unique for the Hoeksche Waard: the arrival of a digital monument. The plans of the Monument for Air War Hoeksche Waard 1940-1945 foundation are at an advanced stage. The place name and date of the crash are also printed on each tile. Individual stories can be consulted via the remaining tiles. “It is about the life stories of the crew members.” The texts about the crashes are largely from the book Air War in the Hoeksche Waard, by Strijenaar Henk Nootenboom. “We will ensure that all texts are also available in English. to be. Een unicum voor de Hoeksche Waard: de komst van een digitaal monument. De plannen van de stichting Monument Luchtoorlog Hoeksche Waard 1940-1945 zijn in een vergevorderd stadium. Ceremoniemeester Jan van Tol uit Barendrecht sprak tijdens de laatste herdenkingsdienst in juni 2016 al over het idee. „We willen vooral jongeren nu en in de toekomst bewust maken van hetgeen er in de oorlog is gebeurd. Daarom willen we het huidige monument uitbreiden met nieuwe informatiemogelijkheden.” Om dat voor elkaar te krijgen, zijn er plannen om precies tegenover het bestaande monument aan de Antonie van Leeuwenhoekstraat in Oud-Beijerland een tegelveld aan te leggen. Anton de Man, initiatiefnemer „Er komen 35 tegels op het gras. Ze worden voorzien van een QR-code, die je met een telefoon-app kunt uit-lezen.” Via de tegels is te lezen op welke wijze een vliegtuig in de oorlog is neergekomen. Op iedere tegel wordt ook de plaatsnaam en de datum van de crash gedrukt. Via de resterende tegels kunnen individuele verhalen worden geraadpleegd. „Het gaat om de levensverhalen van de bemanningsleden.” De teksten over de crashes zijn grotendeels afkomstig uit het boek Luchtoorlog in de Hoeksche Waard, van Strijenaar Henk Nootenboom. “We gaan er wel voor zorgen dat alle teksten ook in het Engels beschikbaar zijn. We hopen vanuit het voortgezet onderwijs daarbij hulp te krijgen.” Over het toekomstige onderhoud is al nagedacht. „Er lopen nu gesprekken met een basisschool; het reeds bestaande monument is al geadopteerd door de Scouting Oud-Beijerland.” De initiatiefnemers Jan van Tol en Anton de Man hopen de plannen voor de aanstaande herdenking in 2017 te hebben gerealiseerd. En dat de uitvoering op meer plaatsen in de Hoeksche Waard navolging vindt. ,,Het zou mooi zijn als er een herdenkingsroute ontstaat, waarbij oorlogsmonumenten met QR-codes aan elkaar zijn verbonden.”
