Op 4 mei 2013 was vanaf het vroegere R.A.F. vliegveld in Ludham in Engeland Clive James met zijn vrouw Shirly opgestegen in zijn
vliegtuigje om op die dag bij het monument van Warrent Officer Jack Dawson Green aan de Boonsweg in Blaakschendijk, namens de bevolking van Ludham, een krans neer te leggen. Jack was op 17 maart 1945 in zijn Spitfire jacht vliegtuig opgestegen voor een missie boven Nederland en niet teruggekeerd maar die dag gesneuveld dicht bij de plaats waar het monument staat. Na boven Nederland gevlogen te hebben en daarbij boven het monument aan de Boonsweg en het graf van Jack in Barendrecht gevlogen te hebben lande hij op het vliegveld van Rotterdam. In de avond was hij samen met o.a. Jan van Tol om 20.00 uur bij de herdenking bij het oorlog monument in het centrum van Barendrecht waar hij ook de dochter van de zuster van Jack, Margaret Bardwell afkomstig uit Australië, heeft ontmoet. Na afloop van de plechtigheid heeft hij samen met zijn vrouw nog enige oorlog monumenten in de omgeving bezocht. De volgende morgen 5 mei is hij weer teruggevlogen naar de thuisbasis het vliegveld in Ludham.
On May 4, 2013, from the former R.A.F. airport in Ludham in England Clive James with his wife Shirly taken off in his
small plane to lay a wreath on behalf of the people of Ludham at the monument of Warrent Officer Jack Dawson Green on Boonsweg in Blaakschendijk on that day. Jack had taken off in his Spitfire fighter plane on March 17, 1945 for a mission over the Netherlands and did not return but was killed that day close to the place where the monument stands. After having flown above the Netherlands and thereby flying above the monument on the Boonsweg and the grave of Jack in Barendrecht, he landed at the airport of Rotterdam. In the evening he attended the commemoration at the war memorial in the center of Barendrecht, together with Jan van Tol, among others, at 8 p.m., where he also met the daughter of Jack’s sister, Margaret Bardwell, who comes from Australia. After the ceremony, he and his wife visited some war monuments in the area. The next morning, May 5, he flew back to his home base, the airport in Ludham.
